The automotive, defense, mining, oil and gas, shipbuilding, and aerospace industries, among others, have validated Meltio’s technology for the manufacturing and repair of metal parts.
At Meltio booth 12.0 C119 at Formnext 2026, Meltio is showcasing several wire-laser metal 3D-printed parts at this year's Formnext. These parts have been adopted in real-world applications across a wide range of industries. Meltio will also demonstrate live printing at its booth. Here are three examples: Designing the part to optimize manufacturing. The automotive industry is using Meltio's DED technology to manufacture metal parts that must withstand high temperatures and mechanical stresses. This is the case with DMZ, which developed a high-performance exhaust header that has demonstrated its reliability after more than 10,000 km on the road while maintaining its original condition. Thanks to Meltio's technology, DMZ was able to create highly complex geometries to optimize exhaust gas flow in the combustion engine while reducing assembly time from eight hours to just one. The part was printed in stainless steel and installed on an Abarth 595, which traveled approximately 10,000 km over the course of a year, including 600 km on a race track. Additive Manufacturing on steel wheels / reinforcing a car's wheels. DMZ has reinforced the metal portion of a car's steel wheels using Meltio's additive manufacturing technology. The objective was to increase the stiffness of the steel wheel by depositing additional steel in key areas, maximizing stiffness while leveraging the benefits of Meltio's technology. The optimized steel wheel achieves the same natural frequency as the alloy wheel while maintaining a significant weight advantage. Development of a part to replace an obsolete part. In industrial maintenance, the failure of a single component can sometimes require the replacement of an entire system when spare parts are no longer available. IMET3D used Meltio technology to create a replacement for an obsolete component following the failure of a critical centrifugal pump. To address the challenge, the industrial customer leveraged Meltio's wire-laser metal 3D printing technology to repair the component through metal additive manufacturing, avoiding the need to replace the entire system. This case highlights how Meltio enables the fast, local, and cost-efficient recovery of industrial assets. The part was redesigned and manufactured using stainless steel 316L, significantly improving its corrosion resistance compared with the original cast iron design.
